Human Rights Week 2017

Monday 04 December 2017 - Sunday 10 December 2017

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission invites you to mark and celebrate Human Rights Week 2017. Human Rights Week helps Victorians build a better awareness and understanding of human rights, and appreciate and celebrate the many freedoms that we enjoy in Victoria.

The week will include a calendar of events that workplaces and groups are holding to celebrate Human Rights Week, an essay competition for students in Years 10 and 11, and our Human Rights Oration on 8 December.

The theme for 2017 is ‘Human rights start with you’. This recognises rights inherent to all of us but also our responsibility to stand up for and respect the rights of others. This connects with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission's new strategy: Upholding human rights close to home- which promotes the importance of human rights in our workplaces, communities, schools, sporting clubs and in government decision-making and policy.
