Being Occupier

Thursday 24 August 2017 - Sunday 10 September 2017

Multi-disciplinary artist Rachel Joy, examines the role of non-Indigenous Australians in reflecting on the violent occupation of this country and the continuing impact of colonialism.

The works exhibited in Being Occupier range from sculpture and painting, to printmaking and shadow works. Joy has deliberately chosen materials in order to create sensory experiences. While many works in the exhibition are abstracted, most related to actual historical events or concepts.

Joy conceives that through the experience of art, audiences can experience previously unrecognised truths. Her work offers an opportunity to engage with our history and consider what is lost through the enactment of violence.
