Yarra Communities That Care is a community-led effort made up of over 24 local partner agencies which focuses on supporting the healthy development of children and young people aged 8 to 14 in Yarra.
Yarra Communities that Care is currently working to:
• strengthen family relationships
• build young peoples’ personal resilience
• reduce underage drinking and other drug use
The priorities of Yarra Communities that Care are guided by the experience and views of children and young people in Yarra. This is identified through broad community consultation undertaken in partnership with Deakin University.
Yarra Communities that Care is committed to delivering programs that focus on prevention, are evidence-based and fit the needs of the local community.
How Yarra Communities that Care is strengthening family relationships
Since July 2017, Yarra Communities that Care partners have delivered 18 Tuning in to Kids and Tuning in to Teens parenting programs. These programs focus on building parents, and their children’s, emotional intelligence and help parents establish stronger relationships with their children.
An evaluation of this program delivery shows it is working to strengthen family relationships in Yarra.
