2020 International Women's Day Awards

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognise the historical achievements of women and the worldwide need for greater gender equity.

This coming March, we will mark this global event by presenting the 2020 Women of Yarra Awards.

Now in its 7th year, the Yarra International Women's Day Awards celebrate contributions made to advancing gender equity in the community.

In 2020 we want to highlight the unseen labour and feminist work that brings communities together.

Yarra’s International Women’s Day Award is an opportunity for us to reflect on these contributions and shine a light on the people behind them.
If you know someone who lives, works or studies in Yarra and who strives to create a more equal world then we encourage you to nominate them now.

Examples of the kind of work we’re looking for:

  • Work that supports positive social change
  • Work that advocates for a feminist future
  • Work that increases the participation of those that identify as women and non-binary in male dominated areas.

About the awards

There will be two awards, an International Women’s Day Award ($500 prize) and an International Women’s Day Emerging Leader Award ($250).

You can nominate and read more about the award categories here.

How do I nominate someone?

NOMINATE NOW

In your nomination, you must respond to the following questions:

  • Please tell us about the nominee - what is their story?
  • What work do they do for Yarra and why is it important?

You can also submit your nomination as a video, word document or voice recording by attaching the file in our online form.

If you need support completing the application, or require a hard copy application form, please contact Suzi Hayes at [email protected].

What is the selection process?

A panel including our Mayor Cr Coleman and representatives from other local organisations will assess the nominations. The selection criteria will be considered when reviewing the nominations, so make sure your nomination is clear and outlines the incredible work of the person you’ve nominated.

What are the prizes?

The winner of the International Women’s Day Award will receive $500 and the winner of the Emerging Leader Award will receive $250.

The winners will have their work in the community highlighted on our social media channels, our website and in our flagship publication, Yarra News.

The nominees and winners will also be invited to be involved in networking opportunities.

The award ceremony

Winners will be announced at the Yarra International Women's Day Awards on Tuesday 10 March from 1.30pm to 3pm at Richmond Town Hall and we invite you to join us.

A free and delicious afternoon tea will be provided.

There will be an opportunity before and after the ceremony to meet all the nominees and find out about their impressive achievements.

You must register if you wish to attend.
