Councillor Misha Coleman 

Cr Coleman was first elected to Council as a representative of Melba Ward in October 2012. She was elected as Yarra’s Mayor for 2019/20. 

She was then re-elected to Council for a second term in October 2016 and is a representative of the Nicholls ward. 

Cr Coleman joined Yarra Council following a career in international community development, which included 3 years at the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and for the past 4 years has been the Executive Officer of a refugee and asylum seeker organisation based in Fitzroy.

She is now working in indigenous and global health as the inaugural Executive Director of the Global Health Alliance Melbourne.

Awarded Australian Service Medal

Cr Coleman was awarded the Australian Service Medal for peacekeeping work in Bougainville and in 2005, was awarded medals for her work in the agricultural and fishery sectors in Vietnam.


Cr Coleman has a Masters Degree in Environmental Law, post-graduate qualifications in international development, monitoring and evaluation and she is a qualified Company Director. She was formerly a midwife and worked as a community health nurse in many remote indigenous communities in Australia, and in black townships in South Africa under apartheid.
