Councillor Daniel Nguyen

Cr Nguyen was elected in October 2016 and is a representative of the Melba ward. He was elected as Mayor for 2017/18.

Cr Nguyen is of Vietnamese background, previously lived in Richmond public housing, and at 29 is Yarra’s youngest current councillor. One of his key aims is to ensure Council decisions reflect the diversity of Yarra’s community.

Professionally, he is the Executive Officer of Tarwirri, a membership body for Indigenous law students and lawyers, working towards contributing to the awareness of legal and policy issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Victoria.

He also volunteers in a number of other legal capacities, including working with victims of sex abuse/violence to ensure they are justly compensated.

A keen Tigers supporter, Cr Nguyen says, “I don't think anything will top seeing the Richmond Tigers win a premiership but having the chance to take on Mayorship is pretty close!”
