The goal: a city that is managed well

The Chief Executive Officer Employment and Remuneration Committee helps us to make sure that Yarra City Council is run by a capable chief executive officer (CEO) who has an incentive to perform well.

Minutes of meetings of the CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee contain information that is confidential under section 3 of the Local Government Act 2020. They are not available for download.

The Chief Executive Officer Employment and Remuneration Committee:

  • helps Yarra City Council set key performance indicators to assess what the CEO achieves each year
  • checks how the CEO’s performance fares against these indicators
  • writes a yearly report about the CEO’s performance
  • reviews the CEO’s salary package and terms of employment
  • tells Yarra City Council if anything should change in the CEO’s employment

When hiring a new CEO, the committee can:

  • liaise with an executive search consultant
  • set up and manage the recruitment process
  • shortlist and recommend preferred candidates
  • give advice on salary and terms of employment
  • prepare role-related documents, including Council reports and contracts

All Councillors are members of the CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee.
