Rates and valuations

When can I expect to receive my rates notice?

Rates notices for residents and commercial are sent out in August every year.

Why do I need to pay rates?

The collection of rates from property owners is our primary means of raising revenue to pay for all the services we provide. Rate payments are your investment in services and infrastructure for the Yarra community.

In 2023/2024, our budget provides a total income of approximately $238 million, of which $132 million comes from general rates. The remaining income is to be raised from fees and charges, parking revenue, government grants and interest from investments.
