Multicultural Partnerships Strategy

girls with gum leaves at cultural eventCouncil is developing a draft Multicultural Partnerships Strategy 2015-18 which will outline ways we can engage with residents from diverse backgrounds and ensure cultural differences are not barriers to community participation and inclusion.

With nearly 30% of residents born overseas, cultural diversity is an integral part of Yarra’s identity. Council is looking for community feedback about how we can ensure Yarra is a place where all people can participate in community life regardless of their race, culture, religion or language.

Council sought community feedback to help develop the strategy in April and May 2014. Council will seek further input into the draft strategy later in 2014.

Multicultural Policy 2010-2014

Council’s Multicultural Policy 2010 - 2014 ensures that Council is accountable to its culturally diverse community and provides services that are accessible and culturally relevant.

The policy is based on the vision that all residents in Yarra feel valued, included, respected and able to access the range of community services and facilities offered by Council.

To achieve this vision, the policy identifies six strategic objectives that will guide Council’s work with the community over the following four years, focussing on communications and engagement, customer service, partnerships, celebrations and events, and advocacy and governance.
