Every dog or cat over the age of three months in Yarra must be registered with Council. Registration is due before 10 April every year. For pets already registered with Council, a renewal notice will be sent to remind you to re-register your pet. Any cats and dogs registered for the first time after 1 May 2007 must be microchipped. This includes cats and dogs that move into the City of Yarra from another municipality.
Registration tags or replacement registration tags are issued on the spot if you make the payment in person. If the payment has been made online or via mail, Council will send you the registration tag or replacement registration tag in the post. These tags must be worn at all times when your pet is off your property.
If you are claiming the reduced or concessional registration rate you will need to provide proof. Please provide copies or show Council officers your concession card, registration of desexing or other appropriate documents.
When applying for a replacement tag, it is important that you fill in all the details on the form. This will help us ensure that your pet’s registration details (including new tag number), are updated on the register, which will assist us in locating your pet if they are lost.
