Access & Entitlements
During each school term, Swim School students are entitled to attend one lesson per week. Students paying by Direct Debit membership are entitled to swim at any Yarra Leisure facility during its opening hours, provided that all members under the age of 10 years are supervised by a person 16 years or older. Students must adhere to all Centre policies and procedures at all times. Free locker access and automatic re-enrolment each term is also included as part of a direct debit membership.
Cancellations
Learn To Swim enrolments are for the whole term, or the remainder of the term if a late enrolment is made. The last day to cancel an enrolment without penalty for the upcoming Term is the Thursday prior to the start of the Term. Your application to cancel must be in writing, either by email to yarraleisure@yarracity.vic.gov.au or by filling in a cancellation form at any of the Centres. Faxes and verbal cancellations are not accepted. If no cancellation in writing has been received, monthly debits or charges will continue to be made from the nominated account.
Direct Debit
Swim School payments made by direct debit are continuous from term to term, and will continue to roll onwards unless a request to cancel is made in writing (see cancellations for details). Your account will be debited or charged on the 28th day of each month. It is your responsibility to provide the Swim School with any updates to your banking details. All requests to change direct debit details must be received by the 25th of any given month to be processed in time for deductions. A $5.00 fee applies for all debit rejections.
Missed Lessons
Unfortunately, due to restricted teacher student ratios, make-up swim lessons cannot be offered under any circumstances.
If a student has been ill during the term and a medical certificate is provided to cover the absences, a credit can be made to the family account for the cost of the missed lessons. A maximum of two lessons per student per term can be credited.
Assessments
Students are continually assessed during the term by their Instructor and our Swim School Staff. Once all skills have been mastered our staff will contact you to discuss promoting your child to the next level. Our on deck Swim School Staff can provide feedback about your child’s progress, however a Certificate of Progress will be awarded on the second last week of each Term.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly will my child learn?
Learning is a continuous process that evolves over a period of time. It is important to remember that children learn at different rates and need to practice their swimming and water safety skills on a regular basis. If children have a break from lessons, their ability to perform previously mastered skills may have dropped off and the instructor will need to revise those skills before progressing to more advanced skills.
What to bring?
Goggles, towel and bathers. Tie back long hair or use a swim cap. Ensure rash shirts and bathers are firm fitting to make it that little bit easier on the learner. We recommend children be warmed, dried and dressed after the lesson before leaving the centre, especially during cooler months.
For parent/child lessons, babies and infants must wear aqua nappies or disposable swimming nappies while participating in lessons. Cloth or general disposable nappies are not permitted.
