Mobile Muster

About 275 kilograms of mobile phones, chargers, batteries and accessories were collected from Yarra and recycled through the MobileMuster program in the 12 months to June 2011.

The aim of the MobileMuster Program, which is coordinated Australia-wide by the mobile phone industry, is to prevent mobile phones ending up in landfill.

More than 90% of the materials in mobile phones can be recovered and used as raw materials for new products.

For example, mobile phone batteries include nickel (which can be used to make stainless steel) and cobalt and cadmium (which can be used to make new batteries).

Council's collection points are at:

The Richmond Town Hall and Collingwood Town Hall

Recycling Drop-Off Point

Richmond Recreation Centre

Collingwood Leisure Centre

To search for other local collection points, visit the Mobile Muster website.

Residents can also mail unwanted mobile phones and accessories to MobileMuster for recycling via a reply paid satchel. If you would like to have a satchel sent out to you, contact Council on 9205 5555.
