Multicultural services
Yarra is a vibrant, culturally diverse community, with almost 28% of its residents born overseas. Multiculturalism contributes to the unique character of Yarra and also plays a vital role in the growth and development of tourism. Council is committed to celebrating diversity in the community and to providing support to newly arrived residents.
Multicultural Policy
Council’s Multicultural Policy 2010 - 2014 ensures that Council is accountable to its culturally diverse community and provides services that are accessible and culturally relevant.
The policy is based on the vision that all residents in Yarra feel valued, included, respected and able to access the range of community services and facilities offered by Council.
To achieve this vision, the policy identifies six strategic objectives that will guide Council’s work with the community over the following four years, focussing on communications and engagement, customer service, partnerships, celebrations and events, and advocacy and governance.
