Church Street water main renewal

City West Water is upgrading ageing water mains in Cremorne and Richmond.

The age of the mains (the Church Street main is approaching 100) and their location in a busy commercial area means a failure would have significant impacts.

Works began at the Swan/Church Street intersection on 7 January in the lane nearest to the kerb on the eastern side of Church Street.

Originally, City West Water intended to begin at Swan Street and head southwards in sections to the Monash Freeway.

Some unforeseen circumstances altered the course of works, starting at the Monash Freeway and ending at Church Street to meet up with the works we've already carried out.

Changed traffic conditions remain in place - southbound traffic on Church Street will be reduced to one lane in sections and some side streets may be temporarily closed with signed detours in place.

Trams will continue to operate in the area, although some stops may be temporarily relocated.

City West Water is not planning to interrupt water supply in the area except to transfer properties to the new water main. This will involve very short interruptions and affected customers will be contacted in advance.
