Acknowledgement of Country
Council acknowledges the Wurundjeri as the first owners of this country. Today, they are still the custodians of the cultural heritage of this land. Further to this, Council acknowledges the other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have lived in, worked in, and contributed to the cultural heritage of Yarra.
Council is deeply committed to acknowledging and celebrating the Aboriginal history of Yarra. This includes both the history of the Wurundjeri around the time of European colonisation and the more recent history of Aboriginal organisations, services and activism around Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, from the 1950s until today.
