Lunar New Year Festival

Lunar FestivalTET, the Lunar New Year festival, is the most important Vietnamese and Chinese holiday.

It is the celebration of the beginning of spring as well as the New Year.

Lunar New Year celebrations have always been an integral part of the City of Yarra’s festival calendar.

Victoria Street in Richmond is the centre of these celebrations, where road closures between Hoddle and Church streets see the popular restaurant and shopping strip come alive for a day-long street party.

The event is Melbourne's best opportunity to enjoy the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of traditional and contemporary Vietnamese culture.

Three stages feature colourful performances ranging from Vietnamese pop to Chinese opera as well as fashion parades, dragon dances, games, rides and more.

2013 is Year of the Snake.

Council's support of the Victoria Street Lunar Festival

In 2006, Council entered into its first three-year partnership with the organisers, the Richmond Asian Business Association.

As the event's major sponsor, Council provides organisers a cash-grant and and in-kind logistical support.
