There is a range of services that can assist with the disposal of used needles/syringes. Council provides syringe disposal units & containers.

Sometimes needles and syringes are discarded improperly and you may find this equipment in the community. You can help to keep the streets free of these unwanted items. Arrange for their removal and disposal as soon as possible.
How do I get syringes and needles collected?
For syringe collection in locations including private property please contact the following organisations:

(For syringe collection in public places such as streets, lanes and public open spaces)
How do I safely handle a syringe or needle?
- If you can, protect your hand with a glove or cloth.
- Never touch the sharp end of the needle, only pick up the syringe by the barrel end.
- Do not try to replace the cap on the needle.
- Put the needle and syringe in a screw top, puncture-proof, plastic container (such as a plastic fruit juice or detergent container) and seal it.
- Tell children never to pick up needles and syringes, but to call an adult.
- Do not put needles and syringes down toilets and drains.
