Yarra residents are invited to a community tree planting day on Sunday 21 June from 10am – 1pm at Halls Reserve, The Esplanade, Clifton Hill.
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said everyone was welcome and no tree-planting experience was required.
“Tools and plants will be provided for anyone who wants to get their hands dirty and help the Yarra environment,” Cr Stone said.
“About 1,000 indigenous plants will be planted in the woodland area of Halls Reserve to create an understory of vegetation that will attract butterflies and other insects as well as birds,” she said.
“We are so fortunate in Yarra to have a woodland like this and the plantings will enhance biodiversity in our urban environment,” she said.
The tree planting will be followed by a free BBQ for participants.
The planting day is funded by Yarra City Council and the Federal Government’s Caring for Our Country Program in conjunction with the Merri Creek Management Committee.
