Yarra's central location means access to established public transport networks is easy and convenient. It has also resulted in a significantly higher proportion of employed Yarra residents travelling to work by public transport, bicycle or foot.
Household size and composition are two important variables. Families with children, for example, have a significantly higher proportion of two or three car ownership compared with the Yarra average. Lone person households have a significantly higher proportion not owning cars.
Car ownership is lower in the City of Yarra than for most of metropolitan Melbourne.
