Yarra's original Submission to the Eddington Enquiry

In 2006 the Premier of Victoria appointed Sir Rod Eddington to undertake a needs assessment of transport options in the East West corridor of Metropolitan Melbourne.

Before developing the report, the State Government conducted community consultation and the enquiry asked for submission from businesses, community groups, government departments, individuals and councils across Melbourne.

Council developed its own submission to this initial stage of consultation urging the State Government to take an integrated approach to transport planning including:

Looking beyond 2030

having a focus on sustainable transport taking into account environmental issues like climate change and peak oil not supporting the construction of a road tunnel.
Please refer to Cr Jenny Farrar's covering letter on page 2 -3 of Council's submission for an overview.

Council has also been working with the Cities of Banyule, Darebin, Whittlesea, Manningham, Melbourne, Boroondara, Whitehorse and Maroondah to develop a joint submission to the enquiry.
