Cycling

Cycling is an economical and environmentally-friendly form of transport suitable for all age groups. It is a great way to get around, explore your neighbourhood, visit friends and to maintain mobility. On a bicycle you can go anywhere - and you don't have to worry about parking!

The City of Yarra has the highest level of cycling of any municipality in Victoria. Bicycle Victoria has also praised the City of Yarra for its expenditure on bicycle infrastructure

To check out your cycling options why not have a look at the City of Yarra TravelSmart Map to work out the best way to get around on your bike.  The City of Yarra TravelSmart map was developed by the Department of Transport and the City of Yarra to provide sustainable transport information on a pocket-sized street map. © State of Victoria 2009.

Off-road bike trails

Check out Yarra's picturesque off-road trails. These trails are suited to all levels of abilities and ages.

Bicycle Victoria (BV) is the peak body for cyclists that focuses on a range of issues for cyclists including:

BV also coordinates major cycling events like Ride to Work Day, The Great Victorian Bike Ride and Around the Bay in a Day. These events can give your cycling some focus. If you are a new rider, Ride to Work Day is a great way to get enthused about riding and find some new places to ride.

If you are a bit more experienced, why not begin training for Around the Bay in a Day or The Great Victorian Bike Ride.

Yarra BUG

Meet other local cyclists at a Yarra BUG meeting, taking place on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm, at Suede Bar, 284 Smith Street Collingwood. For more information contact Carol Skinner on (03) 9419 7958 or Chris Star on 0407 825 467 or email yarrabug-owner@yahoogroups.com

VicRoads

VicRoads has cycling information for Melbourne. The network of off-road bicycle paths and on-road bicycle lanes in Melbourne is continuing to be expanded to include more and more areas. Visit this website for bicycle facilities, maps and other information to assist you with cycling around Melbourne.

Bicycle Advisory Committee

Local residents are encouraged to join Council’s Bicycle Advisory Committee which gives local residents an opportunity to provide regular input into the development of the local bicycle network.
