Anohni - Hopelessness

Hopelessness
Anohni

Formerly of ‘Antony and the Johnsons,’ Anohni’s voice makes this a stand-out album. More political than personal, this indie electronic offering can sometimes be hard work for the listener.

Avalanches - Wildflower

Wildflower
The Avalanches

It’s been over a decade since their last album. And the wait has been worth it. The best in Oz electronic music.

Bernard Fanning - Civil Dusk

Civil Dusk
Bernard Fanning

Displaying elements of 70s AM rock, this album is punctuated by themes of loss, devotion, consequence and reward. A stellar third album by Fanning.

Cesaria Evora - The Essential Cesaria Evora

The Essential Cesaria Evora
Cesaria Evora

Evora is the foremost purveyor of the morna, which blends West African percussion with Portuguese fados, Brazilian modhinas, and British sea shanties. These are songs of haunting beauty and joyous playfulness.

Charlie Patton - Best of Charlie Patton

Best of Charlie Patton
Charlie Patton

Probably the original King of the Delta Blues, these songs date from the late 1920s and early 30s. The sound quality is remarkably good given the passage of well over 70 years.

Dean Blunt - Black Metal

Black Metal
Dean Blunt

Black Metal features more traditional pop song structures than Blunt's previous work, but is diverse in instrumentation and genre. Includes elements of indie pop, folk pop, Americana, dub and ambient.

Diesel - Americana

Americana
Diesel

American born but raised in Oz, this is his tribute to artists that influenced his own music. Includes covers of June Carter Cash, Dylan, Springsteen and Neil Young.

Drapht - Seven Mirrors

Seven Mirrors
Drapht

At times reflective – and always engaging – this is Australian hip-hop at its best.

Emma Louise - Supercry

Supercry
Emma Louise

Thoughtful and somewhat introspective, this is an interesting album from Brisbane singer-songwriter Emma Louise.

Kevin Morby - Singing Saw

Singing Saw
Kevin Morby

Beautifully arranged and produced, this album is a little reminiscent of The Band, and the songs are a credit to Morby’s song writing talent.

Neil Young and Promise of the Real - Earth

Earth
Neil Young and Promise of the Real

As one reviewer puts it, this album is very strange, but ‘good strange.’ Young and his band mine his ecologically themed tunes and mix it up with the animal kingdom. Inspired nutso?

Ocean Party - Soft Focus

Soft Focus
Ocean Party

Well-crafted indie rock from Melbourne band Ocean Party. This 2014 album was their fourth.

Paul and Huw Watkins - British Works for Cello and Piano Vol 4

British Works for Cello and Piano Vol 4
Paul Watkins and Huw Watkins

Early twentieth century composers are represented here, including Kenneth Leighton and Elisabeth Lutyens.

Peaches - Rub

Rub
Peaches

Gleefully subversive, R-rated Techno. You have been warned.

Peter Dasent - Songs for Solo Piano

Songs for Solo Piano
Peter Dasent

Peter Dasent's first solo CD "Songs For Solo Piano" was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London in 2013. The songs range in style from exotic meditations to rags and stomps, infused with the spirit of Italian film soundtracks and American jazz. Dasent is well known locally as the leader of his own band The Umbrellas.

Pina Napolitano - Arnold Schonberg Complete Piano Works

Arnold Schonberg Complete Piano Works
Pina Napolitano

Exploring what she terms as Schoenberg's 'exasperated Romanticism' through his solo piano works, Napolitano produces playing of rare penetration, understanding, grace and elegance. And who would argue with a BBC reviewer?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Essential Early Recordings

Essential Early Recordings
Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was one of the great Gospel guitarists and singers, male or female, of all time. A pioneer of electric blues guitar. Do yourself a favour and listen to her.

Steve Gunn - Eyes on the Lines

Eyes on the Lines
Steve Gunn

Casual in tone, this is breezy, good natured rock displaying Gunn’s distinctive guitar style.

Toumani Diabate - Mande Variations

Mande Variations
Toumani Diabate

Popular music from Mali. This wonderful 2008 album shows the influence of global music on the folk tradition. Recommended.
