Council achieves Carbon Neutral Certification for the Third Year Running
5 February 2015
In January 2015 Yarra received Carbon Neutral Certification for the 2013/14 period under the National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS) program.
The NCOS program was created by the Federal Government in 2010 as an independent body to establish prerequisites for organisations in achieving carbon neutrality - from the measurement of emissions through to the calculation of a carbon footprint, the reduction of all possible emissions, and then offsetting the total emissions remaining.
Back in 2012 Yarra was the first Victorian Council to be recognised by NCOS as a carbon neutral organisation. Additionally, in 2014, Yarra became the first council in Australia to achieve One Planet Certification. This independently assessed global benchmark is awarded to regions that exemplify sustainable living. Yarra is proud to be one of three organisations world-wide to have One Planet Certification.
Council is determined to maintain industry-leading standards in environmental management and sustainability. More information is available in the Yarra Environment Strategy (YES).
