Yarra councillor receives Mayor Emeritus Award
28 October 2015
Congratulations to Yarra councillor, Jackie Fristacky who received the Municipal Association of Victoria’s (MAV) Mayor Emeritus Award at the MAV annual awards dinner on 22 October 2015.
Representing Yarra’s Nicholls Ward since March 2002, Cr Fristacky received the award in recognition of serving three terms as Mayor of Yarra in 2005/06, 2012/13 and 2013/14.
The MAV presents the Mayor Emeritus Award, and Councillor Service Awards for 10, 15, 20 and 30 years’ service as its annual conference dinner. Cr Fristacky has previously received a Councillor Service Award for 10 years’ service to the Yarra community.
Her priorities for Yarra include: building a permanent home for the North Fitzroy Library (building now commenced), more trees and landscaping for local streets and shopping precincts (progressing); establishing an indoor sports complex; and advocacy on extending public transport in Melbourne to reduce Yarra’s through traffic.
Cr Fristacky believes Councils should enhance community through safe streets, open spaces, libraries, cycling and recreation facilities, along with venues and programs that promote municipal health and wellbeing.
She is a member of Council’s Active Ageing Advisory Committee, Bicycle Advisory Committee, Disability Advisory Committee, Early Years Reference Group, North Fitzroy Community Hub Community Design Reference Group, Performance Review Sub Committee and Yarra Sustainability Awards Panel. Cr Fristacky is also Council’s delegate to the MAV, Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF), and Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA).
