Gleadell Street Carpark to Close
27 October 2016
Gleadell Street carpark will be closed indefinitely from Sunday 30 October 2016.
The Department of Education and Training (DET) has informed Council the Gleadell Street carpark will be closed indefinitely to allow construction works to begin on the new Richmond High School.
The Gleadell Street carpark is owned by DET and is currently leased to Yarra City Council.
Council is working closely with the DET to minimise disruption to businesses and residents in the area during the construction. This includes minimising traffic and parking loss as well as minimising impacts on Bridge Road traders, Citizens’ Park, the Gleadell Street Market, Richmond Leisure Centre patrons, Richmond Union Bowling Club, community organisations in the precinct and local residents.
Traffic studies are underway to assist Council in future traffic management options for the precinct. Yarra Council is also looking at viable options to address the problem of reduced car parking spaces in Gleadell Street.
Council is also requesting that appropriate efforts are undertaken by DET during planning, construction and operation to avoid and minimise impact on the local area.
