Yarra joins One Planet
In August 2014, Council’s world-class sustainability program saw Yarra become the first Australian local government to achieve national certification against the One Planet Council standard.
'One Planet Living' is an internationally recognised benchmark bestowed on regions around the world, for being exemplars of sustainable living.
Council’s sustainability performance was audited against ten principles that allow communities to live and work within their fair share of the earth’s resources.
The independent audit placed Yarra alongside leading international communities like Brighton in the UK and Sonoma Mountain Village in the USA.
One Planet Living provides a framework and plan of action for projects and organisations to make it easy, attractive and affordable for people to lead happy and healthy lives within earth’s finite resources - one planet's worth of resources.
