Education

View of the Yarra RiverCouncil recognises that all members of the community can contribute to the health of our local and global environment.

There are several programs providing opportunities for residents, students and employees to learn about environmental issues and act for a healthier environment.

Community Grants Scheme

Council's Annual Community Grants Program offers assistance to community groups wanting to undertake environmental projects in the local area. Projects with ongoing community education benefits for sustainable living are favored.

School programs

There are a range of sustainability programs available to schools to help students learn about environmental issues.

Environmental resources at Yarra Libraries

Yarra Libraries have a large range of environmental resources available for loan including sustainable living books, Powermates (energy usage meters) and Lux meters to measure light levels in your home or business.

Good for baby, good for you, good for the environment

An environmental display has been developed for Maternal and Child Health Centres within the City of Yarra.

The 'Good for baby, good for you, good for the environment' display outlines a range of tips and resources to help new and not so new parents make informed sustainable choices.

Cloth Nappies

The Yarra Cloth Nappy Library gives you the opportunity to try out different types, sizes and brands of modern cloth nappies for two weeks to help you find the perfect nappy system for you and your baby.

Did you know?
You could save anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 per child by using modern cloth nappies.
Modern cloth nappies are easy to use – no soaking, no pinning and no folding.
Did you know that every single disposable nappy ever used is still sitting in landfill today?
