EcoBuy

The purchase of environmentally friendly products is part of Yarra's commitment to the ECO-Buy Program, Victoria 's local government green purchasing program. ECO-Buy works with local government to encourage purchasing of green products. 

Environmentally friendly products include those products that are recycled, greenhouse friendly, enable water savings, non-toxic, reusable or biodegradable. The growing range of environmentally preferable products on the market provides opportunities for all areas of council to green their supply chain. Examples of environmentally friendly products that council has purchased includes mobile garbage bins that contain 30% recycled content, 100% recycled office paper, recycled concrete and rock for roads, water tanks, flow restrictor valves, marmoleum flooring and organic food and coffee.

To encourage further expenditure on products that conserve resources Council has developed a Sustainable Purchasing Policy. The Sustainable Purchasing Policy provides guidelines for employees to make a sustainable choice when purchasing, ensuring the purchase of locally recycled and environmentally preferable products, provided they represent value for money and are quality products. The policy also encourages the reuse of products to reduce landfilling and unnecessary spending.
