
The City Development Division is responsible for protecting, enhancing and developing the City of Yarra's social and physical environment. This broad objective will be achieved primarily through the planning, coordination and delivery of a diverse range of high quality, cost-efficient community and environmental services which are responsive to the needs of residents and other service users. The Division includes the following Branches. |
The Building & Regulatory Services Branch is responsible for managing the Community Amenity responsibilities include Local Law, Animal Control, and Planning Enforcement, Public Health responsibilities include pollution investigation, health inspections, child immunisation and Building Services responsibilities include building permits, building control and enforcement.
This branch is responsible for the ongoing management of the limited parking resources available within the city to optimise resident’s access to homes while seeking to accommodate the parking needs of visitors, businesses and community facilities in a fair and equitable manner, promoting sustainable solutions.
The Statutory Planning Branch is responsible for administering the Yarra Planning Scheme which controls the use, development and subdivision of land throughout the municipality. It issues planning permits and other approvals, and provides advice to Council and the general public about a range of statutory planning matters. The Branch is supported by specialists in the areas of heritage and urban design.
The Strategic and Economic Planning Branch includes the Strategic Planning and Economic Development Units.
The Strategic Planning Unit is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies and policies in relation to land use and development, sustainable transport planning, heritage, urban design and for the review and monitoring of the Yarra Planning Scheme.
The Economic Development Unit is responsible for services designed to build and support a strong and innovative local economy including economic policy and strategy development and business support and facilitation, such as training and development; information, marketing and communication; and support for Yarra's retail shopping strips .
