The Italianate style Fitzroy Town Hall is one of Melbourne's most attractive and imposing buildings. Erected in two stages, it was opened in 1874 and embodies the highest standards of a style which epitomises the Victorian age. The ornate clock tower and the grand Corinthian columns and temple form, echo imperial Rome and present an unusual composition.
