A Yarra resident throughout his childhood and early adulthood, Josh Funder is keen to make a difference in the community he returned to after a decade-long stint studying and working overseas.
Elected as a representative of Melba Ward (which takes in Richmond, Burnley and Cremorne) at the November 2008 elections, Cr Funder said Yarra was a great place to live and work but could be made even better.
“I love Yarra’s diversity. You can walk through Richmond and around the world in an hour,” Cr Funder said.
Cr Funder said he would be pushing for Council to focus more on the delivery of its core services, to invest in the local community through upgrading local facilities, and to become a leader in environmental planning.
“I want to be part of a team that reduces high-volume through traffic in our city, and ensures community and environmental interests come first when large-scale developments are being considered,” Cr Funder said.
An investor in the healthcare community, Cr Funder has graduate degrees in Science and Law.
One of his most satisfying overseas assignments was working with the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative to successfully negotiate reduced prices for anti-retroviral drugs across Africa.
Cr Funder chairs Council’s Finance and Human Services Committee, and is a member of Council’s Audit committee, Business Advisory Group and Yarra Arts Advisory committee.
The 38-year-old, who is a member of the Australian Labor Party, is also a delegate to the Victorian Local Governance Association.
