Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres
Yarra is home to Council-supported Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres (NH&LCs), each providing a variety of programs and activities specifically for their local communities.
The NH&LCs offer services including children and youth programs, art, music, cooking and computer classes, English and other language lessons and community lunches, all at little or no cost.
Importantly, they also provide a welcoming place for community members who may feel isolated or disconnected to drop in, have a cup of tea and see some friendly faces. The NH&LCs are predominantly run and staffed by volunteers.
Council supports the NH&LCs through an ongoing Neighbourhood House Funding Program and a recently renewed Memorandum of Understanding which outlines the shared values and commitment to supporting the community.

Memorandum of Understanding
August 2013, a renewed Memorandum of Understanding 2013-17(MOU) was signed to formally acknowledge the partnership between Council and Yarra’s nine neighbourhood houses and learning centres.The MOU recognises the shared vision of Council and the NH&LCs to connect with the community and provide equitable recreational, social, training and wellbeing opportunities.
