What is Incorporation?
When you incorporate your association or community group you are creating a separate legal entity rather than a group of individuals.
What are the benefits of Incorporation?
- Incorporated organisations are able to access grant funding without requiring an auspice (sponsor)
- It is easier to enter into agreements such as leases or contracts as a separate legal entity
- The ability to buy and sell goods, and to borrow or invest funds
- Low cost application fee
- Minimal reporting requirements
What responsibilities do I have if I Incorporate?
- Meeting ongoing reporting requirements.
- Less flexibility to cope with changed circumstances.
How do I Incorporate?
To become incorporated your organisation must have at least five members and be a not-for-profit.
You will also need to agree on the proposed name of the incorporated organisation along with a written statement of purposes and a set of rules.
