3 Dec 2011 to 3 Dec 2011

ARTillery 2011

--POETRY SLAM--

Presenting a new generation of passionate performance poets who will take to the mic to explore the theme 'freedom of expression'. They will debate, weave and wax lyrical to give a voice to the voiceless.

Poetry will by inspired by the stories and struggles of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL'S 'Individuals at Risk' campaign - activists who are persecuted for defending human rights.

The slam will feature prominent Melbourne poets and will be judged by a keynote poet. All welcome - poetic novices and veterans alike.

Tickets $5 at the door.

This is the 1st event for Melbourne ARTillery 2011.

ARTillery Youth Arts Festival is a volunteer project of Amnesty International that is run by youth activists to inspire young people to take action on human rights issues through the arts. ARTillery challenges local artists to produce original artwork that responds to Amnesty International's human rights campaigns. The result is unique, exciting events all over the country, where young people use ART as their ARTillery to defend human rights.

ARTillery is not your average youth festival. There’s no fairy floss, no overpriced rides, no officials giving a spiel about how youth are the ‘voice of tomorrow’. The festival is about young, local artists pushing the boundaries of their art forms to explore human rights issues.
