On Tuesday 10 August 2004, Council adopted the YarraAboriginal Partnerships Plan, Wurundjeri Reconciliation and Social Justice, 2004-2008.
The Plan sets the strategic framework for Council’s work in Aboriginal affairs up to 2008. It enables Yarra to play a vital leadership role in supporting greater understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal peoples, culture and history.
The Plan includes an updated “Yarra Aboriginal Recognition Statement (2004)” outlining Yarra’s key commitment, values and roles.
In order to deliver on Council’s commitment as outlined in the Yarra Aboriginal Recognition Statement, the Plan includes the following 4 core strategies:

“The design represents the partnership between the Aboriginal community and the City of Yarra. The traditional owners, the Wurundjeri, are represented by the white dots that go outside the City of Yarra's boundary because their traditional boundaries are beyond the City of Yarra. The blue circles represent the Aboriginal organisations within the City of Yarra. This design has been placed over the sun a symbol on the Koorie flag.”
The Plan builds on the work of the Yarra Aboriginal Advisory Group (AAG). The AAG is made up of local Aboriginal organisations, individuals and a Wurundjeri representative; and is co-chaired by an Aboriginal representative and a Yarra Councillor.
The AAG provides a critical forum for on-going consultation and dialogue between the Aboriginal community and Council across a range of issues such as culture, health, outreach services, community safety and place management.
