Disability Access to Meetings

Man in scooter entering buildingCouncil is progressively ensuring better access and services for people with disabilities at its various meeting facilities.

Council conducts its monthly Public Meetings (Council and Committee) at either the Richmond or Fitzroy Town Halls, alternating between the two each month.

The accessibility details at each venue are:

Richmond Town Hall:

1. Mobility Restrictions:

There is an entrance ramp into the Bridge Road building, leading into the entry foyer where a lift enables access to the first floor meeting rooms.

2. Hearing Impairment and Deafness:

            (a) A Hearing Loop has been installed in the public meeting rooms area at Richmond. The receiver accessory may be accessed 
                  by request to either the meeting's chair or the Governance officer at the start of the meeting.

            (b) All proposed Committee and Council resolutions are displayed onto a screen via a data projector, prior to being presented.

            (c) Auslan interpreting can be arranged by request. Notice is required in advance of the Meeting.

3. Visual Impairment:

An electronic sound system is used at all Committee and Council Meetings in order to amplify presenters' voices (i.e. Councillors, Officers and Others).

4. Language:

Assistance of Interpreters (including Auslan) may be arranged by request. Notice is required in advance of the Meeting.

5. Disability Accessible Parking:

A parking bay for people with disabilities is located in Gleadell Street, east of the Town Hall. It is the first bay in from Bridge Road.

6. Toilet facilities:

Available adjacent to the Meeting Rooms, on the first floor.

Fitzroy Town Hall:

1. Mobility Restrictions:

An entry lift is located at ground level in the courtyard at the rear of the Town Hall, off Moor Street via the laneway next to the Library (between Napier Street and Young Street).

The lift services all floors where public meetings are conducted. For the Town Hall or Reading Room spaces, exit at Level 2, turn right and head down to the main hallway. When you reach the hallway, turn right for the Reading Room (where Council and Committee meetings are held) or left for the Town Hall.

2. Hearing Impairment:

            (a) Auslan interpreting can be arranged by request. Notice is required in advance of the Meeting.

            (b) All proposed Committee and Council resolutions are displayed onto a screen via a data projector prior to being presented.

3. Visual Impairment:

Toilets are located in the hallway, between the Reading Room and Town Hall.
