Citizenship ceremonies

  • Citizenship-ceremony-

Council conducts regular citizenship ceremonies throughout the year.

For those seeking to become Australian citizens, the first step is to contact the Department of Immigration and  Border Protection (DIABP) on 131 880 or to visit their website

Once an application for citizenship is approved, DIABP will send you and your family members invitations to the next available citizenship ceremony in Yarra. This can take up to six months, depending on the attendance waiting list.

The waiting list to attend a ceremony is managed solely by DIABP and if you would like any additional information about waiting times you will need to contact them directly.

Six citizenship ceremonies are held in Yarra annually, with the first ceremony for the year held each Australia Day (26 January).
