Waste Collection

Council manages the collection of waste and recyclables for residential properties within the City of Yarra. Residents are encouraged to think sustainably and recycle as much as they can, to help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Our waste service also maintains over 600 street and park bins across the City, and routinely cleans all local streets and major shopping strips.

In October 2009, Council sought feedback from local residents, businesses and other community members about its draft Waste Management Plan 2009-2014

The draft plan recommends strategies and actions Council should take over the next five years to help our community reduce waste, increase recycling and facilitate the recovery of materials for reuse.

A Special Committee of Council will consider the submissions received and report back to Council’s December 2009 meeting on any proposed changes to the plan prior to its adoption at that meeting. For more information, contact Kim O’Connor, Manager – Engineering Operations, on 9205 5511.
