Tourist signage application process
Step 1: Preliminary consultation
- Tourist operator contacts Yarra Council and VIC Roads Tourist Signing Officers to discuss signing application.
- This stage may include an on-site meeting with VIC Roads to discuss sign design and locations.
Step 2: Application lodgment
- Lodgement of application with Yarra Council's Tourist Signing Officer.
- Yarra council forwards application to VIC Roads.
Step 3: Application assessment
- Application assessed against Tourism Victoria criteria.
- Council assessment includes referral to Yarra Transport and Business Development Units.
- Vic Roads assessment includes written confirmation in support or refusal of application.
Step 4: Application accepted or rejected
- Yarra Council approves or rejects signing application based on advise from Vic Roads and Yarra Transport and Business Development Units.
- Yarra Council advises applicant
- If approved, a Tourist Sign Permit will be issued to the Tourist Operator.
- The Tourist Sign Permit is authorised and issued by City of Yarra (Tourist Signing Officer).
Step 5: Sign manufacture & installation
- Tourist operator proceed with sign manufacture & installation as per Tourist Sign Permit.
- Liaison with VIC Roads is recommended during this stage.
