
Council is happy to work with residents and community groups to assist with street closures for event.

. In the policy, you will find all the steps to take to have your event or street party application approved by Council. There are also details in the policy on how you can obtain the use of a free BBQ for your street party.
There are a few things that need to be done to prepare for a street closure for something like a fun run, walk-a-thon or bike ride. These include:

The Victoria Police require 10 weeks notice prior to the event and applications to Victoria Police must be accompanied by a letter of approval from Council. Victoria Police Terms and Conditions for Highway Permits are detailed separately.
It is recommended that applications be made at least 12 weeks prior to the event.
There may be a nominal fee for the supply and erection of barricades and signs. For more information please refer to the Temporary street closure policy.

For a street party to go ahead at least 80% of residents and or businesses in that street must support the temporary street road closure in accordance with the above conditions.
The party can only be held in a local street.
The party must be completed by 12 midnight unless approval is given to extend the time.
Application must be made 4 weeks prior to the event.
It may be possible for a Public Liability Insurance Policy for a residential street party to be arranged through Civic Mutual Plus at a current cost of $157.30. They can be contacted on 9860 3470. Strict conditions apply before such a policy can be issued.
There may be a nominal fee for the supply and erection of barricades and signs depending upon the purpose of the event.
