Interim policy for a temporary street closure
Street parties are a great way to socialise with neighbours and get to know your local community. To help you organise a safe and successful street party, please refer to Council’s Temporary street closure policy

In the policy, you will find all the steps to take to have your street party application approved by Council and also find details on how you can obtain the use of a FREE BBQ for your party.
For a street party or non-profit fundraiser
Before approval for the event can be given the following conditions must be met:
- An Event Co-ordinator must be appointed.
- The event must comply with all Council local laws.
- Public liability of at least $10m must be obtained for the event.
- Residents and businesses affected by the event must be notified and
- Signatures in support of the event obtained.
The Event Co-ordinator is responsible for:
- Obtaining the written approval of Police, Ambulance and Fire services.
- The cost of any Council media advertising of the street closure.
- Liability for any loss of or damage to barricades, signs etc. used to effect the temporary road closure and for the cost of cleaning following the event if required.
For A Street Party Only
- At least 80% of the streets residents and businesses must support the temporary road closure in accordance with the above conditions.
- The party can only be held in a local street.
- The party must be completed by 12 midnight unless approval is given to extend the time.
- All Amplified music to cease by:
- 10pm Monday to Thursday
- 11pm Friday to Saturday
- 10pm Sunday

Timeframe
Application must be made 4 weeks prior to the event.
Costs
It may be possible for a Public Liability Insurance Policy for a residential street party to be arranged through Civic Mutual Plus at a current cost of approximately $160.00. They can be contacted on (Tel) 9860 3470. Strict conditions apply before such a policy can be issued.
There may be a nominal fee for the supply and erection of barricades and signs depending upon the purpose of the event.
