School Crossing Service

The City of Yarra currently has 37 dedicated school crossing supervisors who brave all sorts of weather to assist pedestrians of all ages, but mainly school age children to cross the road safely.

School Crossing Supervisors

The 37 operational school crossings in Yarra are staffed by 37 permanent part-time and relief school crossing supervisors. These school crossing supervisors are located at both pedestrian light crossings and at flagged children's crossings.

Operating Times

School crossing supervisors work for 1 hour in the morning generally between 8. 00 am - 9:00 am and 1 hour in the afternoons, generally between 3.00pm - 4.00 pm in and around schools within the City of Yarra .

Applying for a Relief School Crossing Supervision Position

An exciting opportunity exists within the School Crossings Unit for motivated relief school crossing supervisors.

The successful applicants will be responsible for the supervision of school crossings within the Yarra municipality.

The successful applicants will possess:

* Good communication skills
* English Language skills (reading and writing)
* Good Interpersonal skills
* Experience working with children or the general public
* The ability to follow road safety procedures and laws
* The ability to get to any of the 37 school crossings in Yarra (sometimes at short notice)

Applicants will need to meet the physical requirements of the position by passing Council's pre-employment medical and basic fitness examination as well as undergoing a police check.

School Crossing Supervisors operates within the Community Amenity Unit of the City of Yarra . The School Crossing Service Co-ordinator manages the supervision of 37 school crossing sites throughout the City of Yarra . Crossings are supervised daily in the morning for 1 hour and in the afternoon for 1 hour to assist students and families to travel safely to and from school.

Salary will be based on a standard hourly rate in accordance with the Band 1 of the Victorian Local Authorities Award 2001.

School Crossing Service

The School Crossing Service Co-ordinator manages the staffing and training needs of all school crossing supervisors as well as the crossing equipment requirements of each crossing.

The primary role of the school crossing supervisors is to ensure that all pedestrians are able to cross the road safely.
