Rates - Payments notes
The following information will help ensure you understand your responsibilities when paying rates. It also outlines allocations of rates and charges, penalties, and concessions you may be eligible for.
Property Ownership
It is the responsibility of the property owner to notify the Council of any change in ownership, on the prescribed form, within 28 days.
Change of Address
The Revenue Management Unit must be notified IN WRITING of any change of address.

Rates Rebates/Concession Card Holders
If you are in receipt of a pension, you may be eligible for a rebate on rates. Please note that the appropriate pension card must be produced when submitting your application for a rebate at the Council Offices. Health Care Cards are not eligible for the concession on council rates. Payment of Rates and Charges
Payments of any rates and charges will be allocated as follows:
- Legal costs owing, if any;
- Interest owing, if any;
- Arrears owing, if any, separate rates owing, if any, garbage charges owing if any, current rates owing.
Penalty Interest
Penalty interest on any arrears of rates and charges will continue to accrue until full payment of the outstanding amount and the interest accrued to the date of payment received.
Disposal of Property for Overdue Rates and Charges
Under Section 181 of the Local Government Act 1989, the Council has the power to dispose of property where:
- there are rates and charges (including enforcement costs and interest) which are more than three years overdue; and
- there is no current arrangement for the payment of the overdue rates and charges; and
- there is a Court order requiring the payment or part-payment of the overdue rates and charges.
