Your rates are essentially your investment in the local area. Money gained from rates enables Council to deliver and support a range of local services, manage approximately $1 billion dollars worth of community assets, provide community groups with more than $2 million in annual community grants, and undertake a capital works program of more than $25 million.
Over the past three years, Council has worked hard to prevent any rate rise surprises, maintaining a consistent level of increase averaging five percent p.a. This has been achieved through careful management of operational costs and the development of a strategic ten year financial plan.
$61.44 million or 58.97% of Council’s income is from rates. When you compare that figure to the $106.8 million Council spends on services, facilities and capital works for the community it equates to a 174% return on your investment.
