There is a growing demand for parking in all inner suburban areas of Melbourne. The City of Yarra is an old municipality. Local streets built in the 1800s were not designed for cars or for households to park more than one vehicle.
Council manages the demand for on-street parking using a range of strategies including parking permits, Area Wide Parking Studies and parking restrictions.
These strategies are designed to prioritise residential and business parking over the needs of other parking users.
Council also manages parking in-line with its sustainable transport focus. Council is working hard to encourage more people to use sustainable transport to reduce reliance on cars.
Council has introduced a Customer Service Guarantee, with 60 specific commitments, to improve customer service for the Yarra community. Read more about our commitment for Parking in Yarra.
