People are living longer and want to continue to be involved in their community. Council aims to foster a healthy, active and socially supported life for older adults and those living with a disability. It aims to strengthen and empower people to advocate on their own behalf. Council does this in two main ways:
These activities are carried out in partnership with community agencies such as neighbourhood houses, health centres, seniors clubs and other community organisations.
Council is seeking community feedback to develop a new four year Disability Action Plan 2010-2013.
Council has introduced a Customer Service Guarantee, with 60 specific commitments, to improve customer service for the Yarra community. Read more about our commitments for Community care.
