Community centre at Victoria Park's Social Club building
In May 2011, Council resolved to lease the Social Club building at Victoria Park to the Collingwood Football Club Foundation.
Opening up the Social Club building for community use was a key component of the $7.2 million redevelopment of Victoria Park.
Under the lease agreement, the Collingwood Foundation Club Foundation (CFCF) has established a community hub, and sub-lease part of the building to the:
- AFL Sportsready (a not-for-profit employment and training service for young people), and
- Evolve (a national not-for-profit organisation, delivering early intervention programs for disadvantaged youth).
- Eating Disorders Victoria
- Collingwood Toy Library.
The CFCF can negotiate sub-leases with other community organisations, subject to Council approval.
Under the initial five year lease, which began in October 2011m the CFCF pays $110,000 (plus GST) in annual rental. The lease is for an initial five years, with options to extend it by an additional two five-year terms.
As part of its lease agreement with Council, the CFCF is funding a redevelopment of the Social Club which is scheduled for completion in late 2013. Upon completion, the redeveloped Social Club will provide community meeting spaces available for booking by local residents and other community members.
