Making sure Yarra's local roads, footpaths, buildings and other public infrastructure are safe and serving their purpose is one of Council's highest priorities.
Council owns and operates almost 100 community facilities and carries out planning to ensure that the community’s future infrastructure needs will be met.
Yarra Council has prepared a Community Infrastructure Planning Framework to plan for Yarra’s current and future need for community facilities. The Framework provides innovative new planning tools and internal processes that enable Council to identify and prioritise community infrastructure projects.
Key principles underpinning community infrastructure planning at Yarra include:
- Infrastructure improvements should primarily be driven by community needs and service priorities
- Decisions will be based on reliable and consistent evidence
- Community infrastructure planning should be strategic, spatial and long term in approach
- Infrastructure improvements should be developed through a collaborative approach between service areas, asset managers and other relevant stakeholders
