Private Sector Investment in Affordable Housing

Yarra City Council values the rich diversity of the municipality, and is aware of the important role housing plays in maintaining diversity. In September 2004 Council endorsed an Affordable Housing Statement and Strategy, a strategic response to affordable housing issues based on the recognition of housing as a human right. In recognition of the complexity surrounding local government's role in facilitating the provision of affordable housing and its importance to Yarra's long term well-being, Council held the first of a series of forums entitled Yarra's Future during Housing Week in May 2006: Private Sector Investment in Affordable Housing. An expert panel including the Mayor provided a rich collection of observations and opinions on the subject. Summary of forum transcript
