Food Stalls
Any person selling food at a temporary event such as a:
- Community Festival
- Fete
- Sausage Sizzle
- Street Stall
- Street Party
- Public Gathering
- Any other event
is required to obtain the necessary permits from Council including a Temporary Food Act Registration as required under the Food Act 1984. In order to obtain a Temporary registration rather than a full registration no more than 12 events can be conducted in a year.
What is required?
- If you are organising an event that uses public space such as parks and streets then you must first contact Council’s Recreation & Open Space Unit ph. 9205 5729.
- If you are intending to occupy a footpath then you must first obtain a Temporary Footpath Trading Licence from Council’s Community Amenity Unit ph. 9205 5063.
- To obtain permission to operate a food stall you are required to make application to Council’s Public Health Unit. Please contact the Public Health Unit on ph. 9205 5166 to obtain an Information Kit.
- Food Stall operators must also submit a Food Safety Program to the Yarra Public Health Unit for approval prior to registration under the Food Act 1984. The Events Template enclosed in the Information Kit will assist you to achieve this.
